Privacy Policy

Effective September 14, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Semel (“Semel,” “we,” “us”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to our website at semel.ai, the Semel web application, and related services (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the Service:

  • Account information. When you create an account or sign in — including through Google or GitHub — we receive your name, email address, and basic profile details (such as a username or profile image) from you or that provider.
  • Content you provide. The briefs, projects, prompts, feedback, and other materials you create or connect while using the Service.
  • Usage and device data. Basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and actions taken, collected automatically to keep the Service secure and working.
  • Cookies. We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. See “Cookies” below.

2. How we use your information

We use the information above to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service and your account;
  • Authenticate you and keep the Service secure;
  • Respond to your requests and provide support;
  • Improve and develop features, and understand how the Service is used; and
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

3. Signing in with Google and GitHub

When you choose “Continue with Google” or “Continue with GitHub,” we receive your email address and basic profile information from that provider solely to create and secure your Semel account. We request only the standard sign-in scopes (openid, email, and profile for Google; basic user and email for GitHub) and do not access your other data on those services.

Semel’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use this information for advertising and do not sell it.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

  • With service providers who host and support the Service (for example, cloud infrastructure and analytics) under agreements that limit their use of it;
  • When required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Semel, our users, or the public; and
  • In a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition, in which case we will notify you of any change to this policy.

5. Data retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to keep it to meet a legal obligation or resolve disputes.

6. Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls, and other safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your choices and rights

You can access or update your account information at any time from within the Service, and you can request that we correct or delete your personal information by emailing us at the address below. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws, such as the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and the right to object to certain processing. We will honor those rights as required by law and will not discriminate against you for exercising them.

8. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to sign you in, keep your session, and remember your preferences. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling essential cookies may prevent you from signing in or using parts of the Service.

9. Children

The Service is intended for people aged 18 and over and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International users

We operate the Service in the United States and may process your information there. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.

12. Contact us

If you have questions about this policy or your information, email us at [email protected].
